Recommended for students in grades 4-6

Purpose

This series of courses is designed to provide students with an opportunity to develop their interest in reading news and to develop their confidence and knowledge in a variety of current affairs. In this series of courses, students will learn:

• Improve critical and analytical thinking.
• Improve public speaking and discussion skills in formal settings.
• Learn how to read news articles and advanced news vocabulary.
• Develop interest in reading global news articles.
• Improve academic writing skills related to news articles.
• Be more confident and mature when discussing current events.
• Become an independent thinker.

This course contains some academic elements, including writing, but the main focus is on encouraging students to learn about the world and enjoy the process.

Therefore, courses in this series will be more interesting and less academically demanding than other courses.

after class homework

Homework mainly involves students reading and researching selected articles and topics for the next week. For example, if next week's topic is global climate change, students will be assigned to read a news article and encouraged to complete further reading around their chosen topic.

As part of the course, students will have the opportunity to learn about current events and trends, including the following: Vaccines and COVID, global climate change, cryptocurrency, artificial intelligence, online education, renewable energy, recycling, electric vehicles, social media.
