IELTS: The International Standard for English Proficiency

Global Recognition for Study, Work, and Migration

The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is the world’s most popular English language proficiency test for higher education and global migration. Accepted by over 12,000 organizations worldwide—including top universities in the UK, Australia, Canada, and the US—IELTS measures a student’s ability to communicate effectively in real-life academic and professional situations.

At AEI, our IELTS preparation program is designed to master the specific rubrics and timing required to achieve a Band 7.0 or higher.

IELTS Test Modules

There are two primary versions of the IELTS exam. AEI specializes in preparing students for the Academic module used for university admissions.

      • IELTS Academic: Designed for students applying for higher education or professional registration. It assesses the ability to understand and use complex, academic-level English.
      • IELTS General Training: Geared toward individuals migrating to English-speaking countries or those seeking vocational training. It focuses on practical communication in social and workplace contexts.

Understanding IELTS Scoring

The IELTS test uses a 9-level scoring scale, ranging from 0 to 9 points. Scores are designed to reflect an individual’s ability to use English in a variety of real-world settings. A score of 7 or above is considered a good score and is generally accepted into universities and colleges.

IELTS One Skill Retake: A significant benefit of the modern IELTS is the ability to retake a single section of the test if your performance in one area fell below your target, allowing you to perfect your score without repeating the full exam.

Targeted Scores for Admissions

The minimum IELTS score required for undergraduate entry varies by institution level and specific requirements. Normally, universities and colleges in English-speaking countries require that the total score of the IELTS comprehensive training test is not less than 6.0 or 6.5, and the score band is not less than 5.5. However, more competitive institutions may require higher scores, such as a minimum of 7.0 or 7.5. It is best to check with the specific institution you are interested in to determine their specific requirements.
