AEI Math Core (G1-G6):
We have designed a complete Lower Core Math curriculum (similar to AEI's CC or PSAT series, but for math).
AEI Mathematics: Lower core mathematics courses are divided into 6 levels (Levels 1-6). These levels correspond to student grades in the United States and Canada. For example, Level 3 corresponds to the same level as 3rd grade math.
AEI Math: Core Level |
Corresponding Grade in the US |
Focus |
1 | 1 | Building a strong foundation in number sense, addition, and subtraction. The largest focus is on number sense. |
2 | 2 | Continue to build on number sense and arithmetic skills while also introducing more challenging concepts related to geometry and data analysis. |
3 | 3 | Expands on multiplication and division while introducing further concepts related to fractions, geometry, and problem-solving. |
4 | 4 | Builds on the previous grades and introduces more complex arithmetic, fractions, geometry, and measurement. This level has a large focus on geometry. |
5 | 5 | Continues to develop skills in arithmetic while also introducing more advanced concepts in measurement, geometry, and data analysis. |
6 | 6 | Includes advanced topics such as ratios, proportions, integers, and statistics, while continuing to reinforce previous knowledge. This level starts to connect to more algebraic principles. |
At Taipei American School (TAS), Taipei European School (TES) and other international schools in Taiwan, many parents find that the math progress in school is too slow and feel the need to pre-construct concepts and get ahead of school progress to accelerate their children's progress. Math learning. Currently, many international school parents send their children to local cram schools to learn mathematics. Mathematics at these institutions meets the requirements for more intensive mathematics courses and more challenging material, but the disadvantage is that courses are conducted in Chinese and course content is not tailored for international education.
Some bilingual and local school students who aspire to enter Taiwan's top international schools or study abroad in the future often have above-average math abilities, but they are unable to understand math word problems in English and find it difficult to do math courses in English.
STRUCTURE
AEI Mathematics: We have designed Lower Core Mathematics courses that can be completed in school alongside Mathematics to provide a stronger conceptual foundation. Unlike School Mathematics, AEI Mathematics: Core courses are not progress-limited and students can move through courses at an accelerated pace. This satisfies parents' desire to complete more challenging math beyond grade level while completing a full English curriculum. Students in local schools can also take AEI Mathematics: Core courses and receive the dual benefit of not only improving their core math proficiency but also developing the ability to express themselves effectively when discussing mathematics.
AEI Mathematics: Core is closely aligned with U.S. and Canadian mathematics standards, and each level consists of 4 units, usually named as follows
Unit | Name |
1 | Numbers |
2 | Patterns & Time / Patterns & Algebra |
3 | Geometry |
4 | Statistics |
The final grade score for each level is graded as a percentage, rounded to the nearest whole number. The distribution ratio of quizzes and final exams for each level is as follows:
Area | Weighting |
All Quizzes | 70% |
Final Exam | 30% |
Generally speaking, AEI requires students to score an average of 80% across all quizzes and quizzes in order to advance to the next level.
If a student's average score on all class tests and the final exam does not reach 80%, the student will retake the assessment test.
Class tests are completed in class under the supervision of the teacher. Tests are graded by teachers, and scores are submitted through the AEI teacher platform. The final exam will be scheduled by the branch course advisor. The final exam is scored by teachers and branch curriculum consultants, and the scores are updated on the AEI curriculum system and the final exam report is sent to parents.
Expect a level to take between half a year and a year to complete. However, for students who want to strengthen their mathematical foundation and solid concepts, they can schedule more classes at AEI each week to complete each level faster.
