There are 39 courses in Advanced Placement (AP), a program developed by the College Board that provides college-level courses for high school students. This course allows students to challenge themselves academically and earn college credit through AP exams. AP courses cover a wide range of subjects, from calculus and physics to English literature and world history. By taking AP courses and exams, students can demonstrate mastery of their subjects and potentially earn college credit or advanced placement in college.
AEI’s AP courses
Since 2008, we have a solid reputation for AP exam prep. Our AP courses focus heavily on exam technique and practice to ensure students can approach AP questions correctly. From the end of March to the beginning of April, students enter a more rigorous analogy exam cycle. They need to complete a complete analogy exam and revise and study the exercises for the entire mock exam. We will closely track the results of the mock exams to help students focus their preparation and review time more efficiently. We currently offer small class and one-on-one classes in the following AP subjects:
AP Biology
This course covers a wide range of biological concepts from the molecular level to ecosystems. Students learn through laboratory exercises and classes and are expected to develop a deep understanding of the subject.
AP Calculus AB&BC
Students take Calculus AB or BC through the AP Calculus course. AP Calculus covers topics such as limits, derivatives, integrals, and differential equations. Students should have a solid foundation in mathematics before taking this course.
AP Chemistry
This course covers basic concepts of chemistry, including atomic theory, chemical bonding, and thermodynamics. Students learn through laboratory exercises and classroom instruction and are expected to have a solid foundation in mathematics. Our AP Chemistry students have consistently achieved a perfect 5 since 2019.
AP Computer Science A
This course teaches students the basic concepts of computer programming, including algorithms, data structures and object-oriented programming. Students are required to have a deep understanding of the basic concepts of computer science before choosing courses.
AP Computer Science Principles
This course teaches students computational thinking and computer program development. Students will study topics such as programming languages, data visualization, and the social impact of computers.
AP English Language and Composition
This course teaches students to analyze and write a variety of texts, including fiction and nonfiction. Students will learn to improve writing skills through rhetorical analysis, argumentation, and synthesis.
AP English Literature and Composition
This course teaches students to analyze and write a variety of literary works, including poetry, drama, and novels. Students will improve their writing skills through intensive reading and analysis of articles.
AP European History
This course covers European history from the Renaissance to the present day. Students will understand political, social, and economic changes over time and develop critical thinking skills.
AP Macroeconomics
This course covers the principles of macroeconomics, including supply and demand, inflation, and economic growth. Students learn through classroom instruction and case studies.
AP Microeconomics
This course covers the principles of microeconomics, including market structure, consumer behavior, and production costs. Students learn through classroom instruction and case studies.
AP Physics 1
This course focuses primarily on the mechanical aspects of physics. Students will study kinematics, dynamics, energy, momentum, and rotation.
AP Physics 2
This course covers advanced topics in physics, including electricity and magnetism, quantum mechanics, and nuclear physics. Students learn through laboratory exercises and classroom instruction and are expected to have a solid foundation in mathematics.
AP Physics C
AP Physics C is an advanced graded course covering the principles of classical mechanics and electromagnetism. This course is designed to provide students with a solid foundation in calculus physics and prepare them for college physics courses. AP Physics C is a notoriously difficult course and is often considered the most difficult AP course.
AP Pre-Calculus *NEW*
AP Pre-Calculus is an advanced high school course covering the mathematical concepts and techniques that form the foundation of calculus. Courses typically cover topics such as functions and their properties, trigonometric functions, logarithms, and sequences and sequences. Students who complete AP Pre-Calculus are better prepared for college calculus or other advanced mathematics courses.
AP Psychology
This course covers the fundamental concepts of psychology, including behavior, cognition, and social psychology. Students learn through classroom instruction and case studies.
AP Probability
This course teaches students how to collect, analyze, and interpret data. Students will study topics such as probability, hypothesis checking, and regression analysis.
AP United States History
This course covers American history from pre-Columbian times to the present. Students will study political, social, and economic changes over time and develop their critical thinking skills.
AP World History: Modern Times
This course covers world history from the 1200s to the present day. Students will understand political, social, and economic changes over time and develop critical thinking skills.
Students in Taiwan most commonly take AP math and science courses, including AP Calculus, AP Statistics, AP Biology, AP Chemistry, and AP Physics.
About AP Rating
Each AP exam is scored on a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being the highest score. Scores are based on a combination of the multiple-choice and free-response portions of the exam and are determined by a team of college professors and high school teachers who grade AP.
The multiple-choice portion of the exam is scored by computer, while the free-response portion is scored by AP graders during a week-long scoring process. AP graders are trained to use a rubric to assign points for each correct answer and to deduct points for incorrect or incomplete answers.
The final score on an AP exam is based on the total score a student earns, and some exams weight multiple-choice and free-response sections differently. Generally, a score of 3 or higher is considered a passing score and the student may be eligible for college credit or advanced standing in the course.
A competitive AP score is considered a 4 or 5. Generally speaking, students with an AP score of 5 are more likely to get into top universities around the world. For the most elite colleges, it is recommended that students take at least 6 AP courses.
