Introduction

Teacher Valerie hails from a rural town in northern Alabama. She attended the University of Alabama, obtaining a bachelor of science in both psychology and human nutrition. She completed both her master’s degrees at UAB. There she received her master of public health in epidemiology and a master of science in human nutrition. After graduating, Valerie moved to Taiwan and began her teaching career, teaching science, English, grammar, and writing to young learners. She has lived in Taiwan on and off for six years, splitting time between here and the US to finish her higher education. In 2023, she obtained her doctorate of public health from Samford University. Valerie is passionate about science, the scientific method, research, reading comprehension, writing, health, literature, and art. Her goal is to enhance learners’ critical thinking skills, writing abilities, and comprehension skills, along with developing their appreciation for both art and academia.
